Lions Mane Mushroom Chopped Steak Sandwich

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 Lions Mane Mushroom, grapefruit size
  • 1 Large Baguette
  • 1 Red onion, Julienned
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, Chopped
  • 1 Tomato, Diced
  • 1 Jalapeno, Sliced (optional)
  • 1 TBS Fresh Thyme, Chopped
  • 4 slices Vegan Cheese, Smoked preferred
  • 2 TBS Olive Oil
  • 2 TBS BBQ Seasoning, your favorite kind
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • Butter for bread (optional)
  • 1 TBS Mayo
  • 1 TBS Dijon
  • ½ head lettuce, shredded

Instructions

  1. Press the Mushroom:

    • Press the mushroom into steaks using the Sarno Sear Pressing method with two cast iron pans or whatever you have on hand.
    • Let cool while you prep the vegetables.
    • Tip: Get the pans nice and hot before adding the mushroom.
    • Tip: Press to release water from the mushroom.
    • Tip: Sear both sides of the mushroom steak.
  2. Prepare the Vegetables:

    • Prep all the vegetables (julienne red onion, chop garlic, dice tomato, slice jalapeno, chop thyme).
  3. Sauté the Vegetables and Mushroom:

    • Heat a cast iron pan with a little oil (or no oil) and add the onions and mushroom steak pieces.
    • Sauté.
    • Add BBQ seasoning and cook further to make sure it’s evenly distributed on everything in the pan.
    • Add more oil if needed.
    • Add the remaining vegetables and cook for a few minutes until good and crispy.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Slice baguette in half lengthwise.
    • Spread mayo and Dijon on the open surface.
    • Add cheese slices and jalapeno.
    • Top with chopped mushroom steak and vegetables to cover the entire baguette.
    • Tip: Butter the bread for extra flavor (optional).
  5. Warm the Sandwich:

    • Pop the assembled sandwich in the oven to warm and crisp up the cheese and mushrooms.
  6. Finish and Serve:

    • Remove the sandwich from the oven.
    • Top with shredded lettuce.
    • Roll in parchment paper for ease of cutting in half and holding together to eat.
    • Cut in half and enjoy!

Step 2: Prep all the veg, Heat a cast iron pan with a little oil (or no oil) and add the onions, the Mushroom steak pieces and saute. Add BBQ season and cook further to make sure it’s evenly distributed on everything in the pan. Add more oil if needed. Add the remaining veg and cook for a few minutes until good and crispy.

Slice bread in half lengthwise, spread mayo and Dijon, to cover open surface add cheese slices, Jalapeno and top with Chopped Mushroom Steak and veggies to cover entire baguette. Pop in oven to warm, remove, top with lettuce and roll in parchment paper for ease with cutting in half and holding together to eat. Enjoy!
