Quick Fire BBQ Beans
Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 2 cans red kidney beans (strained)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (Chad's Wicked Spicy BBQ Sauce recipe recommended)
- Pinch of anise or fennel seed
- Pinch of dried oregano
- Pinch of smoked paprika
- 1/2 onion (diced)
- 1-2 sections of jalapeno (diced, with seeds)
- 4 cloves garlic (sliced)
- 1 tablespoon spice blend (recipe not specified, but includes ingredients below)
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (additional)
- Good pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of salt
- Shot of beer (optional, for deglazing)
- Green onion (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Base:
- Add the strained red kidney beans to a bowl.
- Place a pot over medium-high heat. Use a non-stick pan if possible to avoid oil.
Sauté Aromatics:
- Add the diced onion and jalapeno to the heated pot.
- Add the sliced garlic.
- Sauté the mixture for about 3 minutes, until the onions are translucent.
- If the mixture starts to stick, add a splash of water or beer to deglaze the pan.
Add Seasoning:
- Add about 1 tablespoon of a spice blend (including anise/fennel seed, oregano, paprika, black pepper, salt).
- Add another 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika.
- Add a good-sized pinch of black pepper, about a teaspoon.
- Add a pinch of salt.
Simmer the Beans:
- Add 1 cup of BBQ sauce to the pot.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low.
- Simmer for 10-20 minutes to heat through and let flavors meld.
Finish and Serve:
- Transfer the BBQ beans to a bowl.
- Garnish with chopped green onion.
- Serve as a side dish or jacket potato filler.
